Expanding Global Footprint

May 8, 2009

International expansion, despite the worldwide recession, is another way that Harsco Industrial Air-X-Changers is looking to diversify its business and take advantage of abundant world natural gas reserves. Whereas small businesses struggle to fund the capital to support international growth, Harsco Industrial Air-X-Changers is able to build on Harsco Corporation’s worldwide strength and footprint to explore opportunities in emerging market countries for air cooled heat exchangers for the natural gas industry. Harsco Industrial Air-X-Changers is providing an international solution for one of its customers in an expansion into Australia. Australia could potentially be a huge market. It has abundant natural gas reserves and exports a lot of natural gas in liquid form to China, another market that the company is exploring. Recently, Harsco Industrial Air-X-Changers Vice President and General Manager, Rick Ketchum, flew to Brisbane and toured local suppliers, signing non-disclosure agreements with three companies so they could quote on structure fabrication and final assembly. Once the supplier has been selected, Harsco Industrial Air-X-Changers will bring Australian workers to its Tulsa plant to train them in the fabrication process. When the Australian operation is up and running, the local-market supplier will “marry” Harsco Industrial Air-X-Changers’ Tulsa-made cooler pressure vessels to its fabricated structure and perform the final cooler assembly.
