Harsco Industrial Air-X-Changers participates in the Barnett Shale.

December 31, 2009
Harsco's heat exchangers cool and protect the gas compression equipment used to recover and transport natural gas through thousands of miles of distribution pipeline.  Our coolers are specifically desgined with low noise fans to work in harmony with the surrounding community.  They also produce no waste products as they simply use ambient air to cool the natural gas being compressed.  Features like these are crucial in a major metropolitan area like Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, where Harsco Industrial Air-X-Changer Z model coolers serve one of the largest onshore gas fields within the United States.  The Barnett Shale formation is estimated to contain 30 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.  It is known to be a "tight" gas reservoir because it is not easily extracted.  The shale is actually quite hard and until recent improvements in hydraulic fracturing technology and horizontal drilling have made it impossible to produce gas in large quantities.
