Career Testimonial - Stacey Pickens

Balancing his job, career opportunities and time with his wife and children is important to Stacey Pickens, who turned down a second shift position with a previous employer because it limited his family time. Several years after joining Harsco Industrial Air-X-Changers as a welder, he was offered the second shift lead job, and initially accepted it, but then turned it down when he realized it would mean missing seeing his children and being a part of their participation in after school activities. Stacey thought this ruined his chances for advancement at Harsco Industrial Air-X-Changers, and when a lead position opened up on first shift he almost didn’t bother to apply. It wasn’t until the last day that he asked to be considered.

Stacey got the job. A year later he is challenged every day to express his appreciation to the 65 employees that now report to him. “Being lead is more than getting the right jobs in and completed on time, it is about letting every person know how much their work means to our team and AXC.”

Known for his recruitment efforts, Stacey looks forward to implementing new technologies and process improvements in his area. “If you want to work to advance yourself, AXC appreciates that and looks within as opportunities open. New technologies create even more opportunities to learn and grow,” Stacey says. He hopes to continue expressing his appreciation within a flexible team that works together to meet the production schedule.
